The STAR WARS EXPANDED UNIVERSE TIMELINE

by Joe Bongiorno

This chronology follows the original canon of the Star Wars saga. EU-Compatible stories are included in the Complete Saga chronology, which takes a modified One Canon, Three Universes approach (the third one being Infinities). For timelines with strictly pre-2014 EU stories, go to the individual eras.

saraswatichandra ep 1

“After Star Wars was released, it became apparent that my story—however many films it took to tell—was only one of thousands that could be told about the characters who inhabit its galaxy. But these were not stories I was destined to tell. Instead they would spring from the imagination of other writers, inspired by the glimpse of a galaxy that Star Wars provided. Today it is an amazing, if unexpected, legacy of Star Wars that so many gifted writers are contributing new stories to the Saga.”

~George Lucas, foreword to the 1994 reprint of Splinter of the Mind's Eye

The scene then shifts beautifully from the desert landscapes of Dubai to the vibrant, water-soaked lakes of Gujarat. Here, the audience introduces Kumud Sundari Desai (played by Jennifer Winget). A Contrast of Worlds

Instead of accepting the rejection quietly, the spirited Kumud challenges him. She insists that if he wants to break the engagement, he must come to her village and tell her father himself, as she refuses to bear the burden of his decision. Key Characters

Saraswatichandra is introduced not as a stereotypical wealthy heir, but as an introverted, deeply melancholic young man. Haunted by the tragic suicide of his mother, he seeks solace in spiritual practices and extreme isolation. His introduction scene—performing yoga amidst a vast desert—visually encapsulates his desire to detach himself from worldly expectations and the arranged marriage forced upon him by his father, Laxminandan. The first episode generated a wide spectrum of reactions, reflecting the high stakes of its release:

Summarize the won by the series

As the credits rolled on that first episode, audiences knew one thing for certain: Saraswatichandra and Kumud were destined for each other. But the road to destiny, paved with family pride, was going to be a battlefield.

[Dubai: Wealth & Isolation] <==================> [Gujarat: Tradition & Warmth] - Saraswatichandra Vyas - Kumud Sundari Desai - Emotionally distant, introverted - Lively, confident, independent - Haunted by mother's suicide - Rooted in family honor The scene then shifts beautifully from the desert

The premiere highlights his fractured family dynamic. His father, Laxminandan, is a pragmatic, wealthy businessman who values status above all. In contrast, Saras is haunted by the tragic suicide of his mother, Saraswati. This unresolved trauma shapes his distant personality and makes him deeply resistant to the idea of arranged marriage. Gujarat: The Vibrant, Earthy World of Kumud

In contrast, the scene shifts to the vibrant and traditional landscapes of Gujarat, where we meet Kumud. She is portrayed as a soulful, educated, and spirited woman who shares a deep connection with her roots. While Saraswatichandra is reluctant to marry and believes he is not suited for domestic life, Kumud is intrigued by the man she has only seen in a photograph, feeling an inexplicable soul-connection to him.
